Take your seat at the board in City Hall Park. Challenge world-class Grandmasters, test your tactical limits, and experience one of New York's greatest community chess traditions. All skill levels are welcome.
"Simuls in The Park" is a historic community tradition organized by Chess NYC. Held weather-permitting on Thursdays at City Hall Park, these public exhibitions bridge the gap between world-class chess masters and local enthusiasts, students, tourists, and competitive players.
It is a spectacular sight: a single Grandmaster stands in the middle of a circle of chess tables, matching wits with 20, 30, or even more players simultaneously. Whether you are an expert seeking a legendary victory or a beginner hoping to survive 15 moves, the board is set, the clocks are ticking, and everyone is welcome.
Registration to play is completely free, and the events serve to inspire the next generation of NYC thinkers while fostering a shared love for the game.
All optional donations and contributions collected during these public events directly fund and support youth chess clubs, equipment, and training programs in public schools across the 5 boroughs of New York City.
